Educa is the dedicated education division of Sota, which commenced trading in 1989 at the beginning of the PC revolution. By the start of the new millennium, Sota was a leading provider of accounting software solutions for business, later introducing hardware and network services, and subsequently becoming a pioneer of the IT managed services industry.

Sota was one of the first independent Internet service providers in the UK, and also early to adopt the benefits of converging voice and data technologies to become a leading Internet telephony service provider.

The first commercial-grade Sota datacentre was constructed in 2004, located within the secure perimeter of the Kent Science Park campus in Sittingbourne, and this facility was fully integrated with a new high bandwidth fibre optic network. In 2005 a second datacentre was built, followed by a higher-specification datacentre with more capacity, and a 100 seat workplace recovery facility, three years later.

The Sota core network increased in capacity, and was engineered to provide physical diversity, and in 2009 Sota became an independent network operator, with its own regional fibre-optic network.

Today, Sota is an accomplished provider of professional IT managed services across a wide range of sectors, and the specialist requirements of the education sector has led to the establishment of Educa as a dedicated division.
